Insurance Coverage

Insurance usually does not cover court-ordered therapy. This is because court-ordered services are often considered legal matters rather than medical necessity.

Sometimes insurance covers child-focused therapy, but typically not reunification work. We recommend calling your insurance provider to verify your specific coverage. Most families pay privately for court-ordered services. We provide detailed receipts that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

Confidentiality & Court Communication

Sessions are private. What is discussed in therapy remains confidential within the bounds of the law and ethical guidelines.

Court updates are limited. If the court requires updates, the therapist will only share attendance, participation, and general progress, not detailed session content.

Therapists will not give custody recommendations. Our role is therapeutic support, not forensic evaluation or custody determination.

If a therapist is subpoenaed to testify, additional fees apply as listed above.

We know these situations are stressful. Our goal is to support your family while being clear and transparent about the process and costs. You deserve to know what to expect every step of the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The duration varies depending on the court order and the family's specific needs. Some families participate for several months, while others may continue for a year or more. The court ultimately determines the length of required participation.

  • This depends on your court order. Some orders specify a particular therapist, while others allow families to choose from approved providers. We recommend reviewing your court documents or consulting with your attorney.

  • Missed sessions may be reported to the court as part of attendance updates. We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to reschedule.

  • Therapists prefer to remain in the therapeutic role rather than becoming involved in litigation. However, if subpoenaed, the therapist is legally required to appear. Court appearance fees apply as outlined above.

  • Contact our office with your court order information. We'll review the requirements, schedule intake assessments, and explain the process clearly before beginning services.
